Maybank Islamic is the Islamic banking arm of Malaysia's largest banking group, and its scale shapes everything about it: the widest branch and ATM network, the biggest dealer network for car financing, and product pages that assume you will walk in rather than comparison-shop online. This guide covers the full retail shelf as we verified it from maybank2u.com.my on August 6, 2026, including the honest weaknesses.
Governance first, because Maybank Islamic does it well. The bank publishes its five-scholar Shariah Committee with full profiles: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aznan Hasan has chaired since 1 May 2014 and also serves as Deputy Chairman of the Securities Commission's Shariah Advisory Council, alongside Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Fairooz Abdul Khir, Ustaz Mohd Kamal Mokhtar, Dr. Oni Sahroni and Dr. Syahnaz Sulaiman. This is a heavyweight roster by any market's standard.

Deposits: clean contracts, missing rates
The Savings Account-i and Current Account-i both run on Qard, and the pages actually teach the contract: you lend the bank money, ownership transfers, the bank must repay in full, and any return is discretionary. Minimums are RM250 for adult savings (RM1 for minor and student accounts) and RM1,000 for the current account, which still requires an introducer. Both are PIDM-protected.
The problem is yield transparency. No savings or hibah rate is printed anywhere current: Maybank's legacy Islamic rates page carries tables dated 2015. The Islamic Fixed Deposit-i names its Murabahah contract cleanly, runs 1 to 60 months from RM1,000 (RM5,000 for one month), can serve as collateral and bundles Personal Accident Takaful, but again prints no current rate. Every major peer publishes a dated term deposit grid; Maybank makes you ask at branch. If you bank on published numbers, Public Islamic's 2.00% from 13 months (effective 5 August 2026) and CIMB's 2.05% at 36 to 60 months are the visible benchmarks Maybank must beat in person. See our term deposit comparison for the full table.
Home financing: the strongest structure in the market
Commodity Murabahah Home Financing-i is Maybank Islamic's flagship, and structurally it is the reference product. The page names the actual commodities traded, Crude Palm Oil and RBD Palm Olein, which is deeper Tawarruq disclosure than most banks provide. Margin of financing reaches 100% of house value when Mortgage Reducing Term Takaful and related expenses are capitalised, or 90% without. Tenure runs to 30 years or age 60, extended to 35 years or age 70 for professionals and graduates. Minimum property value is RM75,000.
The consumer protections are printed: choice of fixed, tiered or variable profit rates with a ceiling-rate cap against Islamic Base Rate rises, no compounding of profit, no lock-in period, no early settlement charge, and ibra (rebate) on early settlement. Switchers get paid: a 20% stamp duty reduction on new financing and a waiver when converting from a conventional facility.
What is missing is the price. No indicative effective rate appears on the page, while Bank Islam prints 3.55% and Hong Leong Islamic prints a worked 3.60% example. Our advice is mechanical: get Maybank's written quote, then negotiate against those printed anchors. The structure is worth having; just do not pay a premium for it blind. Compare the field in our home financing rates roundup.
Vehicle financing: AITAB with the biggest dealer network
Maybank's vehicle product is named for its contract: Al-Ijarah Thumma Al-Bai (AITAB), lease followed by sale. Margins run to 90% for new and unregistered reconditioned vehicles and 85% for second-hand, with tenures to 108 months. The dealer network integration is the practical advantage; the missing rate grid is the practical weakness, since Bank Islam prints 2.10% to 3.92% by vehicle category. Our AITAB guide explains the structure and the comparison.
Personal financing: printed rates, finally
Here Maybank breaks its own habit and prints a grid: fixed rates of 11% p.a. for RM5,000 to RM20,000, 10% for RM20,001 to RM50,000, and 9% for RM50,001 to RM100,000, over one to six years. No guarantor, no processing fee, no stamping, no early settlement fee, and a late charge capped at 1% p.a. on arrears without compounding. Eligibility needs RM30,000 annual income and age 21 to 60.
Read those rates correctly: they are flat-style fixed rates, so the effective cost is substantially higher than the nominal figure. They are also open-market prices. Civil servants can access CIMB's Pembiayaan Peribadi Awam-i from 3.50% fixed and Bank Islam's package tiers from 5.00% floating, which beat Maybank's grid hard. For private-sector borrowers who fail those gates, Maybank's printed grid is honest and competitive. Full comparison in our personal financing roundup.
Ikhwan cards: the only Islamic Amex in Malaysia
The Ikhwan credit card family spans Visa, Mastercard and, uniquely among Malaysian Islamic issuers, American Express. The Visa Infinite page names its Ujrah (fee-based) structure in its own copy and earns 2 TreatsPoints per ringgit locally, 5 overseas, with conversion to Enrich, KrisFlyer and Qmiles plus Priority Pass access. The caveats: no fee tables or ujrah schedules are printed in the crawlable pages, and some visible benefit copy is stale, including a golf offer dated 2014. Confirm current benefits before applying, and compare CIMB's PETRONAS Visa Infinite-i, whose 12% fuel rebate and waived fees are printed. Our Islamic credit cards guide covers the full field.

Who should bank here
Maybank Islamic suits three customers well. First, anyone whose life runs through Maybank already: the Islamic products plug into Malaysia's largest network and the Maybank2u stack. Second, home buyers who want maximum financing margin and switch incentives, provided they negotiate price against printed competitors. Third, travellers who want an Islamic Amex. Rate-driven savers should hold deposits elsewhere, using our savings comparison as the map, and treat Maybank as the transactional hub.
Frequently asked questions
Is Maybank Islamic a separate bank from Maybank?
Yes. Maybank Islamic Berhad is a separately licensed Islamic bank under IFSA 2013 within the Maybank group, with its own Shariah Committee and its own PIDM membership. Your Islamic deposits there are protected separately from conventional Maybank deposits, up to RM250,000 each. We explain the subsidiary model in our full-fledged vs subsidiary guide.
Why does Maybank Islamic publish so few rates?
We can only report the pattern: deposit rates date to 2015 on the crawlable legacy page, and financing rates are quote-based except for personal financing. Scale means Maybank does not need to win rate-comparison tables to gather deposits. As a customer, the counter-move is simple: bring competitors' printed rates and ask Maybank to beat them in writing.

Is the 100% home financing option a good idea?
It solves a real problem, upfront cash, at a real cost: you finance the Takaful premium and expenses too, so total profit paid rises and you start with minimal equity. If you have the 10%, the 90% route prices better. If you do not, Maybank's 100% option and the government's SJKP scheme via Al Rajhi are the two printed paths worth comparing; see our first-time buyer guide.
